None of those names ring a bell for me. Isn't it funny how a CO's personality can make things either bearable or unbearable! Some have charisma and charm and some are just evil little men.
Welcome to the board! Hope you find it educational and entertaining! Have you been out long? It's a long and hard process for many, myself included. It's amazing to be able to make your own decisions though! Nice to meet you!

My favorite was "The Greatest Man who ever Lived", about Jesus. We studied it 10-11 years ago, when our firstborn was a baby.
I think it was the only time we ever focused on Jesus or love at a bookstudy. It refreshed my soul and I wished all the meetings were about Christ.
I hated "God's Thousand year Reign" or some such book from when I was about 10 years old. The conductor would call on me when he thought I wasn't pay attention and embarrass me by asking questions from a book clearly not written for a child to comprehend. The conductor's annointed mother would also bring up points and he would "correct" her and tell her what the slaves interpretation or new knowledge was. He was such a jerk.

My children's grandmother tries to keep them from getting their burned home repaired....
by HappyGuy ini knew that jehovah's witnesses were callous and cruel but this just takes it to a new level.. my children's house was burned in a fire and their idiot mother (my ex wife) did not have insurance on the house.. home depot is trying to help them and has offered to donate materials to repair the house and has asked habitat for humanity to get involved to supply the labor.. the habitat for humanity district manager came to my children's house and met the home depot district manager and my children.. after they left my children's grandmother (who lives in the house) told them that if habitat for humanity is involved in fixing the house that she will refuse to live there any more because they are involved with christendom.
so, she is putting pressure on my ex wife to leave the house burned and leave my chlidren (her grandchildren) homeless.. my middle daughter said "well, we will miss you when you leave".
my youngest daughter said, "well i guess i won't be seeing you any more because i refuse to live in a burned house when people are offering to help fix it but you and my mother are so stupid and retarded that you won't let them help".. please tell me that my ex wife won't be stupid enough to go along with this nonsense.

There is always JW reasoning that could be used for grandma.
I hate trying to think dub thoughts, but here goes:
1. Jehovah can use any means he wishes to bring about his will.
2. Many times Jehovah has used something unclean to provide what his people have needed. Ex. according to JW's, the magi were atrologers and followed a star from Satan. In spite of their involvement with Satan, Joseph and Mary (who had God's son and his holy spirit) did not refuse them. They let them see the child and accepted the gifts offered to him. Why? No doubt it was for the journey they would be making to Egypt and they were poor and could use these gifts from God's enemies to support themselves on the journey. Your ex and her mother are no doubt then being blessed by Jehovah with unrighteous riches. Those far from God are being used by him to take care of his servants.
3. A prostitute was used to hide the Isrealite spies in Jherico. Would we fault God for having them enter a prostitutes home for protection? Surely entering it would be grounds for disfellowshipping, but God used her and saved her for her good work towards his people. She also came to be an ancestor of Christ. (I think I remembered that correctly!)
I am sorry you are suffering mentally and emotionally as your girls go through this. Thankfully they seem to have wonderful heads on their shoulders and a great work ethic! Keep encouraging them for us!

Big Bang Theory is my favorite too, Cantleave!
Our TV does stink! I would say if you watch a one hour show, you will have 20 minutes worth of commercials! Very annoying!
There aren't any family friendly shows or sitcoms you can watch with children. We are stuck watching cartoons with the children and ushering them from the room for the any sitcoms we might watch. Or we watch something educational.
I miss the days of shows like "Cosby Show'", "Alf" and "Home Improvement". I remember enjoying shows like that where parents didn't have to really sheild children from swearing and inappropriate themes.
I find if we can DVR a show, we get more enjoyment because we can zip through the commercials and avoid them. I wish they weren't there. It is very distracting. It's also probably why we snack while watching TV, we see commercials for food every 7 minutes and go to the kitchen for a snack! How can you stand seeing juicy hamburgers, pizza, soda, chips for so long without desiring them? Of course we also use them for bathroom breaks...just like the song at mid meeting at the kingdom hall!
The best shows seem to be behind us. When they finally come out with a show that peaks your interest, for example, "Lost" and "Heroes", they go on a writers strike and you lose all sense of where the show was and wonder if they are going to drop like, as they do so often. You get tired of it, and you refuse to watch it, knowing they will pull the rug out at any whim. They do suck. Really they do.
I just got used to my daily dose of Conan O'Brian...and now he's gone. It's best to wait for something on DVD...no commercials and you can watch a full season! I've got a few sets I want to get still.
Do you not have to deal with commercials where you are? Or are they much more limited?

Mad Sweeney, you are so right! I remember the feeling of the blinders falling off and that for the first time in my life, at 33 years old, I could make a decision for myself. I had never felt that before!

Thinking and asking questions is what Christians are supposed to do. The bible encourages it. To feel fear of asking questions and that searching for answers is wrong...is wrong.
Starting off by yourself to examine things is scary and necessary.
The internet is portrayed as evil because you can find answers there! It's the same with college. You can find history, others experiences, scholar interpretations of the bible, etc.
When I graduated high school, we under the understanding of the generation meaning that Armageddon would come within the lifetime of those who were old enough to remember WWI. It was 1991. We were told not to make future plans, even giving up marriage or children, yet the Society was making plans to open Patterson in 1995 (if I remember correctly). Back then, I remember thinking, how silly of them seeing the end was coming! I didn't think of how that should have told me they were falsly prophesying! I can see that now. It was wrong of them, and still is wrong, that they play with the future of people and put them through suffering and turmoil while they prosper and don't suffer.
Keep in mind that when Christ asked his disciples if they too wanted to leave him, they said "Lord, you have the sayings of everlasting life". They didn't turn to the Watchtower, they didn't turn to other men. They turned to the Lord. This scripture gets twisted by the Governing Body and they apply it to themselves. They say are the channel Christ uses. But this isn't true. If it was, they would welcome questions and the truth would shine and be undestructable. No question would shake it.
Rely on God and the Holy Spirit to lead you. It was enough for centuries and it still is.
Pray for strength and the leading of the Spirit. It will lead you! Buy a new bible with several translations in it. That was my first step! I was so scared in the bookstore that someone might see me in the religion section. It is sad to think how scared I was! But do it. It was the best money ever spent! Compare them as you read. Really read the context and ask for the Spirit to guide you in your reading. Your eyes will open and you will see the bible in a whole new light! You will find comfort and revelations! God will take you under his wing. When I took it with me to a circuit assembly (we were new to the area so I could get away with not feeling like I was under suspicion by using it) I was floored with how much the scripture was twisted to support their teachings! I nearly got up from my seat and screamed! I was so ready to walk out! We left at lunch time and went to the zoo instead! We had a wonderful time and I felt so much closer to God there than at the assembly! We enjoyed our hotel and watched the other JW's leave for the assembly and went to the mall! It's now become our tradition at that time of year!
When people tell you that you need the Society to guide you and interpret the bible, it's not true. The bible itself says that the spirit will guide us. It is all we need.
Your awakening is your own. Your journey is your own. It isn't easy, but it's worth the effort. Whatever you choose, I hope you find peace. I believe God leads us when it is time and we are ready. He is patient with us, much more so than we are with ourselves! We desire knowledge and wisdom so much that we are willing to jump at it before we may be ready to understand it! Take it at your own pace. Your peace will come. Best wishes to you!

I'm sorry. It's a loss almost harder than a death...well, maybe it is harder.
With this kind of loss the wound festers because death isn't the one stopping the love and association. There is hope that springs eternal. It gets in the way of the grieving process because you know the person still walks the earth. That their heart and mind might one day change. Maybe. Probably not though.
That pain rears it's head when you hear about them, when you think about all they and you and the children are missing out on.
It digs everytime you think of their callousness.
It haunts your heart. You wonder why they don't feel the pain as intensly and see their error. How can they cut out their heart and cast us off? How can you do that to your child, your friend, your sibling. So many times it's done before you even get df'd or disassociate. They hear a doubt, a problem that you have before you have even decided to leave, and they abandon you. It shows how shaky their faith is. They must be holding on by a thread themselves and are afraid it will snap.
It's hard. I can't say it gets easier. I don't know how to comfort you, but offer encouragement that you are not alone. You have friends that understand here. We share a common bond and sufferings. May you find a way to make peace with it.
